Barriers to access to education for children and youth were discussed in Osh

On April 2, 2026, a meeting of civil society representatives, organized by the Association for Education Development in Kyrgyzstan, took place at the Asman Inclusive Center in Osh.

The event was attended by 12 people, including NGO representatives, parents of children with disabilities, and individuals with disabilities. The majority of participants (11) were women.

The main goal of the meeting was to strengthen cooperation between civil society organizations and discuss current issues in education, particularly barriers to accessing quality education for children and youth, including individuals with disabilities.

During the meeting, participants jointly identified and analyzed the main problems in the Osh education system. These included:

  • lack of educational infrastructure and overcrowded schools
  • shortage of qualified teachers, especially in inclusive education
  • lack of an individualized approach to teaching children with special educational needs
  • low public awareness of inclusion
  • persistent stigma and social barriers

During the event, participants:

  • analyzed the causes of existing problems
  • discussed possible solutions
  • identified areas for cooperation
  • selected initiatives for further joint implementation

An important outcome was the expressed intention of several organizations to strengthen cooperation, as well as the interest of new members in joining AED.

The discussion revealed that, despite the existing regulatory framework, significant gaps in ensuring equal access to education persist in practice. Participants emphasized the need to move from a formal approach to real inclusion focused on the potential of each child.

The meeting became an important platform for dialogue, exchange of experience and the formation of joint solutions aimed atных на развитие инклюзивного и доступного образования в регионе.
