Regional Workshop on Gender-Transformative Education in Bangkok

On August 26–27, a Regional Workshop on Gender-Transformative Education was held in Bangkok, organized by the Asia South Pacific Association for Basic and Adult Education (ASPBAE), of which the Association for Education Development in Kyrgyzstan (AED) is a member.

Two representatives from AED took part in the workshop, which brought together representatives of national education coalitions from across the region to exchange experiences, discuss key challenges, and promote gender-just education.

During the sessions, participants explored the role of FemNet4GTE, a network that advances feminist and inclusive approaches to systemic change in education, and learned about practical tools for integrating equality principles into education policy.

The discussions addressed key issues such as persistent gender inequality in education, the lack of a systematic approach to comprehensive sexuality education, and the impact of conflicts and climate crises on girls’ access to safe learning environments.

On August 28, a Regional Meeting of National Education Coalitions was held, with participation from AED’s Executive Director. Participants were updated on the strategic directions of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and discussed shared priorities for advancing gender-transformative education and strengthening the role of civil society in ensuring the right to education for all.

For AED, participation in these events was an important opportunity to exchange experiences with regional partners, strengthen professional connections, and enhance the contribution of the Kyrgyz coalition to the regional education movement promoting equality, inclusion, and quality education for all.
